SAMC announced on May 18, 2010 the development of Alabama's first college of osteopathic medicine to help fill the state's shortage of an estimated 400 primary care physicians.

Developed by the Houston County Health Care Authority and operated by a private, not-for-profit board with local and state representation, the college plans to enroll its first class of 150 students in the fall of 2013.

Foundation Information

Serving the community for more than 50 years, Southeast Alabama Medical Center has an established reputation as a regional healthcare leader. The Medical Center is now in a position where it can further meet the needs of the community through inspiring philanthropy that will transform the hospital as well as the region it serves.

Launched in 2006, The Southeast Alabama Medical Center Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is dedicated to developing a strong base of philanthropic support to help Southeast Alabama Medical Center and its affiliates provide quality healthcare and promote wellness. The Foundation seeks and receives charitable dollars to help SAMC enhance services, build new facilities, provide better training for health care professionals, fund cutting-edge equipment and technology, and bring unique and specialized services to the regional community faster than before.

The Foundation is ready to help meet your unique financial needs by providing gift plans that benefit you and your family, bringing immediate and deferred tax advantages to both you and your heirs, and having a meaningful impact on our mission beyond your lifetime and far into the future.

Gifts can be made in honor or memory of a healthcare professional, family member or friend, and can be designated for one or more areas of the hospital including new technology and equipment, facilities expansion, community wellness programs and more.

For three days I was disregar...
