Foundation Information
The Bronson Health Foundation was created to receive tax-deductible donations to Bronson Methodist Hospital and Bronson Vicksburg Hospital. Established in 1983, the Bronson Health Foundation supports Bronson in its efforts to improve health for the individual and the community. Bronson Methodist Hospital has accepted all patients in need of care since its founding in 1899. Today, Bronson provides more charity care than any other hospital in southwest Michigan. While Bronson does not use donations to pay hospital bills, the generosity of our community makes it possible to provide a wide array of special services to patients and families. These patients include those with burns, cancer, children with life-threatening illnesses, senior adults, premature infants, and families overwhelmed with a medical crisis. |
Community Outreach & Activites
Since its founding more than a century ago, Bronson Methodist Hospital has been committed to outreach efforts and to providing care to all people, regardless of their ability to pay. This approach is fundamental to Bronson's mission and values as Kalamazoo's only community-owned and locally governed hospital. Annually, Bronson documents its service to the community through community benefit reporting which tracks service to the underserved, community outreach and leadership, and time and resources donated to health professional education. The most recent report shows Bronson gives back more than $48 million a year in community benefits. For years, Bronson has served the largest percentage of Medicaid patients of any hospital outside of Detroit. Bronson's charity care and non-reimbursed Medicaid care expense has risen sharply in recent years, increasing the demand on Bronson to find the resources to provide care to a growing number of families in financial need. Despite limited reimbursement, the hospital continues to provide medical care in virtually every specialty and is dedicated to being the community's and region's destination for critical care services. About 40 percent of the people served come from outside Kalamazoo County. Bronson is a Level I Adult & Pediatric Trauma Center and has the largest Emergency Department with nearly 80,000 visits annually. It offers advanced care as an accredited chest pain emergency center center and certified stroke center and provides the region's only high-risk pregnancy center, neonatal intensive care unit, burn center, and children's hospital. |
