Dr. Laurance F Johnson, MD

TERRIBLE DOCTOR. Avoid Dr. Johnson. Most importantly, don't take your child to this angry, arrogant, cruel man. I was a ...patient of Dr. Johnson's for several years, when I was a teenager. My parents paid this man thousands of dollars over the years, so that I could sit there and listen to him talk about his problems. He complained about his ex-wives, his two sons, his girlfriend. He would tell me about, and put down, other patients of his during my sessions. He would put down, and mock, the parents of his child patients. He told me how parents got angry with him, because of how he spoke to their children. Dr. Johnson would imitate the parents in front of me. Dr. Johnson brought up sex, without me bringing up the topic first. For example, one time, for no apparent reason, he told me this story about an adult patient of his who could not get an erection. I don't know how that story is relevant to the life of a high school girl. Once he told me how Sandra, his girlfriend at the time, had a friend who had "nice tits". Again, I'm not sure why he told me that. Dr. Johnson missed his true calling in life...he should have been a truck driver, driving down the street, whistling at women. He likes to cuss in front of his child patients, for the shock value. One thing that was weird was the way he could be angry, crude, and cruel one minute, and then the next minute he's talking about being a "happy and wholesome" guy. He seemed oblivious to what a terrible doctor he was. He would tell me "I'm the best therapist in the area and you're not going to find anyone better than me." LOL. Another doctor, who was a colleague of Dr. Johnson's, eventually was able to get Johnson to refer me to someone else. He felt that Johnson had "badly damaged" my life, and said that Johnson was a "terrible therapist". He has no business being a psychiatrist. more details
