I came to Ottumwa Regional Hospital for a CT scan (big mistake), as I was desperately needing answers for what was a s...erious ongoing health crisis back in 2018. Dr. Elvin McCarl with Radiology Associates, blatantly missed a 6mm or so kidney stone that was easily detected by my urologist in less than 30 seconds over two years later. The Ottumwa Regional Hospital investigated and determined the stone is on the scan but not in the report. I originally just wanted to talk to him, ask how this could have even happened. I actually wanted to sit down and have him actually show me what he missed in 2018 (just to make sure he was capable of finding it?), and make out the correct diagnostic report . ORHC didn't think that was a good idea, but turned me over to Radiology Associates. They contacted his insurance, then some lady called (from the NORCAL Group) to discuss getting releases signed so they could start collecting the information needed to check the validity of my complaint against Dr. McCarl. Two months go by, and the lady told me not to call back any time soon, as it takes quite a while to receive the records and have them gone through. I called a couple days ago to see about their investigation. Dr. McCarl has gotten lawyered up- instead of owning up to a mistake that cost me over two years of being unemployed at $85,000+, depleted savings accounts due to unnecessary medical expenditures and procedures, not to mention the constant beat down of the boulder inside of my kidney. MULDOON, JASON B823509522 08/15/2018 ELVIN MCCARL MD- insurance charge was $830.00, and I paid $181.00 of that. That's what it cost for his bogus report, the whole premise of the CT scan was for a kidney stone and was ordered with contrast for easier detection of smaller particles. I’ll be starting a lot of conversations about "Since when does anybody get a second opinion about their radiology diagnostic report?" It really does matter where you get your scans done? Most importantly who the medical doctor is interpreting the scan and then drafting up the report that your primary care physician bases their care plan on. I will give Dr. Elvin McCarl credit for being a “quick draw” on getting lawyered up so fast- GOOD JOB!!! Hats off for Dr. Elvin McCarl!!! more details
