Teaching Programs

Higher Education and Research
As Des Moines' oldest hospital, Mercy Medical Center has a long tradition of providing educational training for resident physicians, interns, nurses and other health care professionals. Mercy offers certified health care education programs through Mercy College of Health Science and the School of Laboratory Science. In addition, residency programs are offered in pharmacy, family medicine and surgery.

Mercy Medical Center also offers research opportunities for our students, physicians and the public. Students and physicians have opportunities to work within their areas of expertise. They can also participate in the Iowa Center for Translational and Clinical Research (ICTCR)—of which Mercy is a founding partner. Members of the public are invited to participate in studies offered through the Mercy Medical Center Institutional Review Board (IRB), which oversees research at Mercy.
