Spiritual Care Services:Because spirit is an important dimension of human wholeness and the healing process, our mission is to assist patients, families, loved ones, employees, and community members as they face the emotional and spiritual impact of illness and crisis. Chaplains (both staff chaplains and Clinical Pastoral Education students) help people deal with issues of fear, loneliness, hopelessness, ethical values, and questions of meaning. To contact a chaplain at the Summit Campus (in Oakland), please call (510) 869-6784 or page the on-call Chaplain at (510) 801-5050. Chaplains are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Volunteer Information

Walk into any Alta Bates Summit campus, and one of the very first people you'll see is a volunteer. Hundreds of people a day, thousands of people in a month's time, are assisted in the registration process; given information on how to reach a room, patient, meeting or service; sold gifts or flowers for a loved one; escorted to a treatment room or accompanied to a car on discharge; helped with a menu; had relatives soothed in the Emergency Department - all this and more by our volunteers.

Community Outreach & Activites

Small Voice:Small Voice enables children with motor, sensory, communication and/or feeding delays to improve their chances for independent and productive lives. Small Voice helps children maximize their skills in order to better interact with and learn from their environment, resulting in improved quality of life and future academic success. Through our extensive parent training, we empower parents and caregivers to enhance their child's skills at home. To contact Small Voice, call (510) 204-4599.

For three days I was disregar...
