Dr. Andrew W Bender, MD

Dr. Bender is a hostile and aggressive physician with no understanding of the patient-physician relationship. He takes n...o accountability for complications that arise once his patients leave the operating room and subsequently blames the patient if recovery does not meet his expectations. If questioned, Dr. Bender has an explosive temper that he isn't afraid to unleash on his patients or their loved ones. In one encounter I had with Dr. Bender, I was genuinely afraid he was going to physically attack me. Equally disturbing is that the company who employs him, Shady Grove Orthopedics, seems to be aware of his aggression and justifies it as "a sports coach mentality of motivating patients." I have upper back problems going back 29 years and have been treated by several chiropractors and orthopedic doctors ove...r the years. Recently I had a very painful episode that involved my whole upper body. So, I made an appointment.
Never have I encountered the likes of Dr. Bender. Dismissive, condensing, does not listen, forms opinion of condition without talking to patient, does not answerer questions, prescribes “sugar pill” in the form of hot and cold therapy. If that doesn’t work, will have to look deeper.
What a waste of an expensive copay. I think he just does not care anymore and can’t wait for retirement. I am not in the habit of leaving feedback for MDs, but his dismissive treatment warrants one. more details
