Without describing the specific risks, Duckworth, performed experimental surgery on my teenager that drastically WORSEN...ED chronic pain from a minor great toe fracture. His pain never resolved, and she then prescribed 1300 narcotic pills in the first 90 days post surgery. In her "experiment", which she recommended instead of the definitive procedure of fusing the joint, she removed 1 cm of bone and placed an equine tissue implant in the joint space, contrary to the product's instructions and intended usage. In the 3 years since, he has had 3 revision attempts by orthopedic foot specialists (including one at Stanford and one at UC Davis) that involved taking grafts from the iliac crest to fill the gap. So far, all have failed to incorporate, and as of May, 2013, he still faces possible amputation of the toe.
