First, let me say that this is the first time I have felt compelled to write an in-depth review and the first time I hav...e given only a 1 star rating and I do not do it lightly.

The reason for me going to Dr. Koreishi was that my Optometrist said that she was concerned that I might have a problem with my corneas and recommended I see a corneal specialist as soon as possible. I searched online and found Dr. Koreishi and based on her credentials I felt that she would be able to provide me with the care I needed.

When I called for my initial visit I spoke to the receptionist who was distracted by something or someone else in the background because she had to ask me to repeat my name and other information several times. Not once did she tell me she was sorry for the disruption or explain what she was dealing with and was short tempered with me. I have never had that experience before when calling a doctors office for an appointment so I kind of threw me but I thought it must be something unusual going on and since I needed to be seen by a corneal specialist as soon as possible I just pressed. The young woman who I spoke with seemed to lack proper "phone etiquette" for lack of a better term and seemed to be focused on other things instead of the caller. After going to my first appointment I began to see possible reasons for her distractions, lack of focus and what I consider to be poor interpersonal skills and proper phone etiquette.

I have had dozens of physicians over my lifetime and Dr. Koreishi has the poorest interpersonal skills I have ever encountered. I was her patient for 6 months and saw her on 4 different occasions and she never once took the time to stop and ask me how I was or if I had any concerns or questions before or after the exam or even refer to me by my name one time. She rushes through the exam and is in and out the room in a matter or 3 minutes. If you do have a question and do not think very fast then it is too late because she is gone. So then you have to ask her assistant to try to get an answer from her while you wait around in the waiting room until the doctor is available since she has quickly moved on to the next patient. Either that or you are told that you will need to try to remember to ask your question during the next scheduled appointment, an appointment that might be a couple of months later. I have asked Dr. Koreishi a couple of times at the beginning of the exams to please explain to me in plain English what her diagnosis and the prognosis were, basically to just to go over the exam results but each time she is gone in a flash. She speaks to her assistant during the exam in medical terminology that the average patient doesn't understand and so you are left wondering what the exam revealed. On a couple of occasions, she said "my assistant will explain and demonstrate the therapy", but the assistant just handed me a pamphlet and told me to read it and follow the instructions. Then the assistant tells you to check out and make a follow-up appointment and out you go. If you get home and have any questions about the therapy described in the pamphlet you have to call the office and wait until someone is available to speak to you and then hope you can get an answer to your question. It may be an efficient use of their time but not of the patients and it doesn't give you a very good feeling about how you are treated as a patient.

Dr. Koreishi seems to lack any interpersonal skills or what some would call "bedside manners", she is never welcoming or smiles, never positive or encouraging. She acts like a robot and everything about her practice feels the same way. It is rushed, impersonal. I had the feeling that I was on a production line. I never felt welcomed by her or her staff and that doesn't make me feel that I am going to get the proper respect and attention that I and every patient needs and deserves.

On one occasion Dr. Koreishi prescribed a new medication since the one she had prescribed didn't help my symptoms. Normally my prescriptions are filled within a matter of a day or two but after several days of waiting, I contacted my pharmacist who informed me that he could not fill my prescription because the insurer was requesting the reason for the medication. The new medication was very expensive and was a new medication and one that needed justification. The insurer needed to verify my diagnosis and needed to know if much a less expensive medication and the one that is normally used for patients with my diagnosis had been tried first. The insurer provided me with a web link to the form that the insurer needed to be completed by the doctor and then faxed to them. I looked on Dr. Koreishi's website looking for a means of communicating with her or her staff and found an email address listed and thought that this would be the perfect way to relay the information and the web link address to them. I have online accounts with several of my doctor's practices and they are very responsive to email questions or concerns which is very nice and efficient of my time and theirs. So when I saw that Dr. Koreishi had an email address listed on her website I sent an email about the new medication that she had prescribed telling her that my insurer needed more information for before they would allow me to get the medication, but the response I received was shocking. The response came from Dr. Koreishi herself and she told me not to use the email address again and that the emails come directly to her and the email address was not intended for communications between her and patients. She said that her staff would get around to sending the information my insurer required, but they only did that kind of admin work on Tuesdays of each week so that meant that I would have to wait for almost another week before her staff would send the information. After waiting for a week I called her office to follow up to see if the information had been faxed to my insurer and it had not but they said that they would do it ASAP. Another week went by and they still had not faxed the required supporting documentation and so I just had to wait until they got around to doing it. After several weeks I finally was able to fill the prescription. The delay in getting my prescription was principally due to Dr. Koreishi's office practice of doing admin work on only one day a week which does not serve the patients needs and leaves them waiting for their prescriptions. Why prescribe a medication that you say is needed if you are going to take a couple of weeks to get the information needed to fill the prescription. Why have an email address on your practice's website if you do not want your patients to use it to contact your office or you for assistance? Why would you be so unfeeling and so rude as to tell me never to use the email address again, like I had done something wrong? Are you kidding me? Wow!

My next complaint in regards to the accuracy of patient records. When I first went to Dr. Koreishi as a new patient I was required to fill out the usual packet of forms which I expect and don't have a problem with. What I do have a problem with is when I ask for a copy of my records and I see that the information I provided is not the information that was entered into my patient record. I provided my home address, an address that I have had for over 40 years so I know that on the forms I filled out I entered my correct home address, but what I saw in my medical records was a completely different address. They had not simply made a typo or transposed a numeral but rather had entered into my medical record a completely different address. How something like that can happen is beyond me except that maybe it has something to do with the way the practice is managed.

Everything is rush, rush, rush with everyone scurrying around all the time. Dr. Koreishi splits her time between an office in Ft. Worth and one in Arlington and she and her staff go back and forth between the 2 locations. I can only imagine how disruptive that is to the staff and the work environment and the efficiency of the staff. It probably leads to the staff felling constantly rushed or overworked which will eventually mean more mistakes and in a healthcare setting that can have tragic consequences. There is probably little time available or time taken to make a review of processes or to poll patients and ask them to provide feedback so that deficiencies can be addressed through training or retraining of staff and of the doctor herself. I am reminded of the proverb "...physician heal yourself.". It also makes me think of the 6 P's - "Piss Poor Planning leads to Piss Poor Performance.". You may be the best-trained physician and have the greatest resume in the world but you also need to process interpersonal skills and good communications skills in order to be an effective caregiver.

There are fixes to the problems that I have described here and the direction needs to come from Dr. Koreishi herself who I feel is a major part of the whole problem. Since I have no means of communicating with Dr. Koreishi directly through email, hopefully, Dr. Koreishi or members of her staff will read this review and will take appropriate action to remedy the deficiencies, but I personally will never benefit from any improvements since I felt compelled for my well-being and peace of mind to move on to a different doctor and a difference practice. I have now found a doctor that is almost the complete opposite of Dr. Koreishi's personality and a practice where I feel welcome and where I feel I will get the treatment I need.
